Robots

The Original

In the Skystone FTC year, 2019-20, our team was still very inexperienced. Our first robot was the default REV robotics robot, using basic Rev motors that came with a kit. We took this robot to the first league competition of the year with a simple claw on the front of it. This design was not the best, but we improved it in the next iterations of the design. We still use this one for testing purposes.

The Omega

This was our first true robot. While more complex than the first robot, it was still rather basic. It was a Andy Mark mecanum robot, meaning the robot can go in multiple directions. This iteration had a rack and pinion with a front facing claw to grab bricks. It also had hooks to move the building grounds and a holder for our skystone. We still have this robot today, but it is out of commision.

Elmo II

This is the current robot that we are using. It has a mecanum drive, however, we bought it from GoBilda rather than AndyMark. This was because the GoBilda wheels were better than the AndyMarks. The frame was built by our team in the summer of 2020. Its primary function is it's large intake and launching system. Using surgical tubing and a Compliant Wheel, we are able to grab rings and shoot them at a high velocity towards the goals. This robot was exciting to make because we got to use incredibly poweful motors to launch the rings. It also has a goat sticker and multiple raccoon decals. Don't ask why. You don't want to know.

Elmo III

This robot was built after Elmo II, during the season itself. Structurally, it is very similar to the Elmo II. That is because it is. We got an updated drive frame from GoBilda. The wheels are slightly smaller and have a smaller footprint. Currently, it is being used for Machine Learning/Vision. However, in future seasons, we hope for this frame to be our main robot.

Elmo I

No one knows what happened to this robot. What was it like? Was it any good? Did it even exist? And who decided to name the first Elmo Robot Elmo II? We may never know...
